Sketchup is used daily at my architectural job,

rightly or wrongly, we use Sketchup to generate construction level detailed models as a basis for generation of 2D and 3D drawing output.

We have found that sketchup is best suited to our work flow as an architecture and construction firm. It can be used across the entire consultant and contractor team on site in one format or another, linking to Tekla and revit for certain consultants/specialists (via 3D DWG or IFC), and autocad via 2D DWG/DXF.

The main contractor can use the sketchup model as a reference alongside the formal spec and drawing package to better understand the details in 3D, and importantly, the sequencing of construction (using the scenes set up by the design team).
