Never, I mean never leave things lying around on the treads of a(ny) staircase. This is begging for accidents to happen, possibly even with fatal results.
There’s a limit on how short the treads should be at the inside of the turn, which makes it hard for a program alone to create the geometry.
Open sketchup > extention warehouse > search: stair > find your desired free/payed/listed extention!
May need to select one by trial&error, but there are plenty of options i guess.
Just a quick selection: instant stair, maj stair, fms stair, s4u stair 5, maj rail, gkware stair maker, etc, etc.
