I bought a SU 2015 lifetime license, my computer died - where upon I lost my license, SU will not keep their word for a lifetime license
So it’s Trimble’s fault your computer died?
You should have an email with the license information. Did you keep a copy of the installer? Trimble hasn’t removed your ability to use your SketchUp 2015 license. If you kept your license information and a copy of the installer you should be able to continue using it. That’s on you, though.
By the way, your profile says you are using SketchUp Free (web) 2016. There was no web version of SketchUp in 2016.
I have the license number
its not trimbles fault my computer died
I did not know to keep the installer?
I had a license for 2015
can I get a new installer?
You can get an instraller for the current and previous two versions of SketchUp but your license won’t work for those versions.
Any time you’re using licensed software and choose not to stay in support you should keep a copy of the installer. Trimble has had a policy for more than a decade of supplying the current and previous two installers. Older than that, they don’t supply. Even if you could get a 2015 Pro installer you’d want to be very careful. Windows hasn’t provided security updates or other support for the web browser that old version of SketchUp uses. This means your computer could be open to attacks from outside.
I have the original receipt for my purchase of SU PRO 2015
nowhere on this receipt does it say to keep the installer, how would I know to do this?
as I recall, the 2016 SU pro had problems
Keeping a copy of an installer is just a standard thing with software.
Is that why you decided not to continue with support?
thanks, so, I lost out…
per what you are saying
I guess you could look at it that way. Keep in mind you were entitled to support for 12 months from when you purchased the license. That was part of the agreement. It was your choice to discontinue support at the end of that 12 month period. Really it’s not true that Trimble/SketchUp didn’t keep their word. They provided support for the period you paid for. The same applies to any other licensed software you had on your computer. If you stopped support the onus is on you to keep your computer in good health, keep installers, and license information.
FWIW, I’m just a SketchUp user. I’m not paid by Trimble or SketchUp. I have chosen to keep support active for SketchUp since 2003.
It might be that you can find someone here on the forum who has a 2016 Pro installer and would be willing to share it with you. Of course it’s a caveat emptor sort of thing.
what you say may be true, I don’t see on my receipt that I needed to pay per year to keep my license upto date
I didn’t say that. You were only entitled to support for the 12 months after you purchased the license though. You would still have the license to use SketchUp 2015 but Trimble/SketchUp have no obligation to provide support after the 12 months expired.
The Sketchup Pro 2015 x32 and x64 installers can be downloaded here
Are you truly still using Windows 8.1?
Off topic:
That page was not available for a while, because the company no longer sells Sketchup… it’s good that at least the archives were made available again.
I am on w10
Thanks sWilliams, are these installers safe?
will SU 2016 work on W10?
Yes, if you have the v2016 installer AND a license.
You can download v2015 from the de archive, and it’s safe, AND you say you have a license…
You are making this a lot more complicated than it needs to be.
I think I have the 2016 pro installer
I have the
serial code
authorization code
is this what I need?
yep. install 2016 and upon launch, you should be able to input your serial and auth code.
unless there are server problems on trimble’s end, you seem to have everything needed.
I wonder when they made the archive available again. Last time I checked it was gone. I figured permanently.
