Been away from SU for a month or three and looked back just now at a topic/question I asked in 2015. All graphics/imagery has vanished.
My topic from May this year seems intact.
The 2015 text thread is still there but no graphics. Is this SU pruning ?
Can I retrieve the imagery content ?
Moved this to the Meta Category for discussing the workings of the Forum itself. I have notice there is a cut off age of posts beyond which posted graphics are no longer saved. I don’t know what that date is. I would guess @DanRathbun knows something about this.
There was a post about this from Discourse devs.
I think it was a server issue and the old images were just “lost” somehow.
EDIT: It was apparently due to a switch away from serving image
resources through Amazon CloudFront via some other repository.
@sam explained what happened at the bottom of this topic thread:
Thanks both.
Had a read through. Much of it over my head but I get the idea that some problem has made it vanish. My stuff is generally fairly “low level” so no great loss to the universe just slightly sad for me
At least I’ve learned that forum problems get called “meta”
… if I remember
No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man’s death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
