Right, but I only need support because I can’t find my models…
I have a new PC, and can’t find where to download the software.
I recall that years ago I started using the online version as the offline version was no longer being updated. (This was a major pain as my workshop had no internet access)…
However coming back now after a little break, I can’t seem to find anything!
You should have outlined all this in your first post.
You can do a web search and find some place to download SketchUp 2017 Make. Trimble hasn’t supplied it for at least five years. Of course downloading it from some other source comes with risks.
As far as your models are concerned, they would be on your old computer unless you made arrangements to save them to a cloud location or some external drive.
If you want to use the web version go to Trimble Identity If you sign in with the same email address and password you used years ago, you might find models you made in that version are still there however if it’s been years since you used that version they may have deleted those files from their server.
Not that I need to do this, but when I search the Internet for 2017 installers, I only find ones for Pro. 2017 was different to earlier versions, in that Pro does not fall back to being Make, you need a Make installer, which so far I didn’t find.
If you have ways to migrate applications from your old computer to the new computer, that ought to work.
What happens if you sign into Trimble Connect? Do you then find any of your old models?
I do have the Sketchup Make 2017 installer, version 17.2.2555.0. Just never found a reliable place to upload it, just been sitting on my google drive since November 2020 lol.
Sorry, I was somewhat frustrated by the fact there was no obvious link anywhere to get to https://app.sketchup.com/app which is what I was looking for, once I got there I could find some models.
However it’s also extremely frustrating that one has to be online all the time in order to use this, and the responsiveness of the app is far snappier in a dedicated application rather than online browser rendered version of an app.
I do have models safely backed up on a NAS, and cloud storage, however without any way to open them, they are no use.
I used sketchup for a decade as a woodworker, however then it became online only and very expensive at the same time, so this is my first need to open something in that app for a long time.
It’s also really bad experience that every help link just takes me to a page that says I am not entitled to any help.
Thank you all for your responses, I do appreciate them.
Did you follow the link I provided? I agree, it could be easier to find the link. I guess it’s a good idea to create a bookmark for it.
I get it. Many free apps are the same way now. I suspect that the discontinuation of a free desktop version of applications stems largely from too many users violating the EULAs by using them professionally. They’ve spoiled things for hobbyists.
Yes, although the fact it auto-changed to “Trimble Identify” didn’t help, as a link to the free version should just be an obvious link to the application.
I would agree that Google messed some things up with SketchUp including offering a free desktop version. I do think that it’s good that they sold SketchUp to Trimble, though or no one would be using SketchUp today since it would have gone off to the Google Graveyard like many other applications that didn’t serve Google’s purpose.
