Today I was forced to load the most recent version of SketchUp … because Scan Essentials (which had been working just fine earlier this week) quit working with an error message that said something like “This version of SketchUp does not support Scan Essentials” … or words to that effect.
Long story short … I went from Version 261.1.256 to Version 26.2.243. This solved the Scan Essentials problem … uploaded a new point cloud and was off and running … until I started modeling.
Apparently I am in the habit of backing out of operations by using “Alt-Backspace” … I say this because almost immediately I found myself looking at a miscue on the screen that would not go away … or least not without mousing up to “Edit” … and clicking on “Undo.”
This was disconcerting enough in itself … but I thought … maybe my “Alt-Backspace” was a kybd shortcut. And while exploring that … I found that “Ctrl-Z” (the kybd shortcut listed in the “Edit” pull down menu box) … I found that “Ctrl-Z” does not work either.
So what’s up?
At the very least I would expect “Ctrl-Z” to be work as an “Edit-Undo” … but it doesn’t.
And perhaps my modeling technique is sloppy … and I should not be backing out of every 2nd operation … but my muscle memory tells me that “Alt-Backspace” used to work … but apparently it doesn’t anymore.
I would gladly go back and verify all this but I now have 26.2.243 installed.
So there you have it.
Is this a problem with Version 26.2.243? … or is my install corrupt? Is my machine the only one where “Ctrl-Z” does not work as advertised?
Look at your Preferences > Shortcuts > Undo [search] and see if that key combo is set, or if you try to reset it what is using it instead ??
You can also assign additional key combos to do it…
Ctrl+Z has worked in every version of SketchUp at least since V3. It’s the standard Windows shortcut for Undo and cannot be overridden in SketchUp. If Ctrl+Z doesn’t work on your computer I would be looking at the SketchUp installation and maybe the keyboard.
If you just want to back out of something you start, Esc will do that.
But Alt-Backspace and Ctrl-Z quit working with the the installation of Version 26.2.243 … which I am assuming is very new … because Scan Essentials was also working … until it wasn’t … which was cured by the REQUIRED installation of 26.2.243.
I dislike all batteries. They are mostly toxic waste. Whenever possible, I have switched to rechargeable batteries. The AA and AAA are good in that rechargeables are readily available. I hate the sizes they use in remote controls, car keys and the like that are even more toxic and harder to find.
