What are the moving triangles on a selected entity for?

When an entity is selected, there are are two moving arrows on it’s X, respectively Y border, if my mouse is on that axis-position…
What are those arrows good for?
They remind me of a crosshair-cursor going over the whole screen, but i don’t see what they are good for. Moving a selection happens from the movable “move-point”, or whatever it is called…

I would have expected an explanation on the selection help page here, Selecting Things | SketchUp Help
but no luck.

Those are just the resizing handles. Click on one of them and use it to resize the selected entity.

I see…
I think they are just visual clutter, dragging my attention. It would be more than enough, if they showed up only when hovering the borders…
Or what else is all that SCAAALE ME! Screaming good for?

I don’t know. I’ve never seen them as a problem. They can be useful as guides when lining things up to the sides, too. Maybe it would help you if you change the selection color.
