farmORtown. I live in a large city, but…my heart is still planted somewhere on an Iowa farm.
What is your industry and profession?
Retired elementary teacher. That said, my first degree was Interior Design—so my mind is always busy (uncontrollably so!), trying to visualize and manipulate spaces so they feel good and function well.
Where do you use SketchUp?
At home—for personal projects (currently tackling a home renovation for our own house)
Why do you use SketchUp and what is your favorite thing about it?
I have learned to use SketchUp so I can work in a civil way with my husband! He is an electrical engineer, so armed with SketchUp and color-coded spreadsheets, our right-brains and left-brains have puzzled out how to work together quite peaceably. I do the detailed drawings, and has the technical knowledge and experience to make things come to life. SketchUp allows us to communicate specifically—visualizing, make decisions, working with contractors, and planning the parts of our renovation that we will do ourselves.
How proficient are you in SketchUp?
After about a year of trial and error, I have gotten pretty good—and fast-- at the basics, creating 3D floor plans, using the 3D warehouse for surface finishes and furnishings, creating and editing components, cross-sections, layering lighting plans, adding dimensions and notes, and determining exact measurements. Still, I know there is a world of potential that I have neither discovered nor explored. I love SketchUp and often do it just for fun!
What is your current set up?
Windows 10, 64-bit
Do you have a 3D Warehouse page with your models or a website you would like to link?
*After using SketchUp for over a year, I have finally created an account and am just now discovering this forum. A big thank you to all of you who are sharing here.
