Greetings. Malcolm here. I’m retired law enforcement. I use Sketchup only for for fun and visualizing ideas. I’ve been using it for over 10 years but I have much to learn, which is why I’m here.
Kent Gale, software industry support exec. Using Sketchup personally and casually for modeling out home renovation ideas – new workshop, vacation home kitchen, new deck, garden arbor structures, etc. – and for concept modeling of objects better suited for rendering in CAD/CAM apps but I’ll stick with this until I buy a 3D printer.
Have been using SU on and off for about 8 years. Skill level varies from beginner to more proficient beginner depending on how long I’ve been away from it between projects. I use the desktop version on an old Windows 10 Dell computer and on a 12.5" iPad Pro (gen 6).
I don’t know about 3D Basecamp but will look into it.
Am looking forward to reading helpful posts and perhaps will be able to contribute at some point. It all seem like a vast and somewhat intimidating body of knowledge at this point!
Hi all, my name is Thomas Brown, and I’m graduated as an engineer from Georgia Tech, hated working for others, and started my own home decor manufacturing company back in 2013. Our specialty is made-to-order colorful lighting and hardware, and we design and build 100% of the products we offer from our 24,000sf studio in Minneapolis.
I’ve spent the last year creating all our products in Fusion and then creating parametric versions in Revit and Sketchup. Our team is a diverse mix of artists and creatives who enjoy the making process and do our best to “make it cute” for our customers. My goal/dream is just to continue to design more USA-made products, employ people doing what they love, and to create products that our customers can be proud of.
My latest task has been loading parametric versions of our products to 3D Warehouse. Here’s our profile: Dutton Brown 3D Warehouse. Our profile has nearly half a million downloads, and I’m trying to learn more to expand our products’ reach. I’m considering BIMobjects and ARCAT currently, but I’d really appreciate any advice anyone has on how we could try to grow our humble American-made decor company or anyone who can tell me how we might be able to improve our Sketchup models. Thanks for any feedback, y’all!
I am a 10 year old using this because I think that Blender is too hard. I can’t find any button in my homepage to create anything.
What exactly does that mean?
What version of SketchUp are you using? You put “SketchUp Classic” for the license type and “Web” for the version. There is no Classic license for SketchUp for Web. Does that mean you are using a cr acked version?
You should start a new thread.

Hello!
Who are you?Felipe OliveiraWhat is your industry and profession?I’m an engineer in oil and gasWhere do you use SketchUp? Personally/professionally?I use SketchUp mostly personally, for my woodworking hobby. I also used it recently at my job to model a piece of equipment for a patent application. Why do you use SketchUp and what is your favorite thing about it?I like that it’s very easy to get proficient enough to create very complex designs. I started using it as a complete noob a couple of months ago, using it only in my (very little) spare time and watching the Square One tutorials (they’re great by the way), and I’m now able to model my entire balcony in it. Just amazing user-friendly UX.How proficient are you in SketchUp?As I said, I just started using it, but I feel like I’m able to create great models already. I’ll say late Beginner.Have you gone to a SketchUp 3DBasecamp?I haven’t, but it sounds fun! What is your current set up?I use SketchUp for iPad on an iPad Air 4th gen with iPadOS 18.6Do you have a 3D Warehouse page with your models, Extensions, or a website you would like to link to or show off to us?Not yet.Anything else you would like to tell us?It’s been only a couple of days since I discovered the forum, and judging by the little that I saw so far, I’m going to enjoy being a member

Good morning! My name is Tina Parks and I am fairly new to Sketchup. I have been taking a course in Coursera. I work in the manufacturing industry but taught school for 27 years before the transition. My problem is the Coursera class is outdated and the intructor has a heavy accent as he is from Japan…I think. I’m stumped on making a simple bicycle wheel tread. I am currently using the free online version of Sketchup. I welcome any and all suggestions for help.
Good morning. Start a new thread in the SketchUp Free forum category. Show us at least a screen shot of what you have so far. Also describe how you plan to use the trie tread once you have it in SketchUp. That will inform the way you should create the model.
Hello, I’m new to SketchUp and am using it primarily in layout to produce construction drawings and this has been just the last 2 months. I learn something every day and am working at understanding computer programs and the logic of how to use them.
I’m not a computer person, just the simple user friendly application, so it’s a new world for me. I started on a gaming laptop and decided to try and get my graphics working better so I switched to a Mac mini m 4 pro. I do architectural work in residential and have always drawn by hand, however, that has become increasingly difficult so I’m working with SketchUp and an extension called Condoc to help with the drawings.
I’m definitely a beginner and have issues all day every day, but I love the amazing capabilities of computer drawing and drafting. I’ve been designing structures since 1987 and was getting tired of the work involved with submitting plans to the various jurisdictions. I love the cleanliness of the drawings and look forward to venturing into SketchUp for 3D modeling (that’s not true, I dread it)
I have lots of questions and look forward to learning how to be productive with this system.
Hi, My name is Ted. I am a retired software developer. I started using SketchUp at the beginning of this summer so I guess a slightly advanced beginner. I am using it to try and create an historic old building that I have been somewhat obsessed with since I was a child. The house is part of the Historic American Buildings Survey and there are pictures and blueprints in the Library of Congress.
I am using SketchUp Pro 2025 on a 2024 iMac desktop.
Hi Guys. I’m Catharina. My first time using the software. Nice to meet yo all
I am new to SketchUp. I am using it for personal use, to design our house that we want to renovate. I am finding the training manuals very helpful. I am beginner level, so much to learn. any advice would be highly appreciated.
My name is Mike and I live in Georgia USA and am a retired S/W Configuration Manager. I mostly use SU for personal stuff although some years ago I used it to design a series of alphabet style BandSaw box patterns and several designs for turning wood bowls on a lathe.
I must confess that I lied to (re)start my enrollment in the forum. I’m still using the free Skechup8 version and enrollment questions did not accommodate that.
I’m somewhere between beginner/intermediate. I’m using a several years old HP All-In-One PC running Windows 11 with a single external monitor (PC monitor is trashed).
My current projects are designing hold-down clamps for woodworking and trying to create a model of a driven 24-tooth pulley (about 2” in dia.) to repair a shattered pulley in a belt sander (OEM pulley no longer available).
Hello SketchUp Community,
I’m Rynian, and I’m excited to introduce myself here!
Who are you?
I’m an Interior and Exterior Designer with a passion for creating functional, aesthetic, and immersive spaces. I love helping clients visualize and experience their homes and projects before construction begins.
What is your industry and profession?
I work in the interior design and architectural visualization industry, specializing in creating functional and aesthetic layouts for residential, commercial, and landscaping projects.
Where do you use SketchUp? Personally/professionally?
I use SketchUp professionally for design projects and personally to explore new ideas, experiment with styles, and sharpen my skills.
Why do you use SketchUp and what is your favorite thing about it?
SketchUp is intuitive, flexible, and fast—it lets me focus on creativity instead of getting stuck in technical workarounds. My favorite part is how easily I can model and visualize ideas, and then bring them to life with rendering.
How proficient are you in SketchUp? Beginner, intermediate, advanced?
I’d say I’m not entirely sure, but probably somewhere between intermediate and advanced. I use it daily for client projects, but I’m always learning new tricks and techniques through basic tutorials on YouTube.
Have you gone to a SketchUp 3DBasecamp?
Not yet—but I’d love to attend in the future to connect, learn, and be inspired by the SketchUp community.
What is your current set up?
I work on a high-spec Windows laptop designed for rendering, with dual monitors for productivity, and V-Ray for realistic visualization. A good mouse is essential—I’ve learned that the hard way!
Do you have a 3D Warehouse page with your models, Extensions, or a website you would like to link to or show off to us?
I’m in the process of preparing a portfolio to share. For now, most of my work is with clients directly, but I’ll be posting models and renders soon.
Anything else you would like to tell us?
Design for me is more than just creating layouts—it’s about bringing comfort, efficiency, and beauty into spaces people live and work in.
What is your favorite Emoji?
(Because design and nature always inspire me).
Looking forward to learning from all of you, sharing my work, and being part of this community!
