hello, i am an absolute beginner regarding sketchup
my immediate goal is to use sketchup on
twinity
to enhance my profile on there, however, i bought a paper copy of ‘sketchup’ for dummies, and now realise that i have more potential than merely that:nerd_face:

I am a retired electronics technician who uses Sketchup for wood working plans. It is just a hobby but it helps instead of drawing by hand.

Hi, my name is Michael and I’ve been using Sketchup off and on for woodworking and 3d printing. I’m by no means an expert, but I’ve always been able to figure out how to get done what I needed for my model. I’d add a pic, but I don’t know how to do that on this Mac. So, recently Microsoft installed an update on my Dell laptop and totally hosed it. So I put my foot down and dove into a MacBook Air head first! Needless to say I’m limping along as I’ve been such a hot-key person in the past.

So, my issue is I need to install the SU stl inport/export extension. I went though the Extension manager and found and installed the extension. At least it says it’s installed. The problem is I can’t find it in SU to be able to use it??? Can anyone offer some assistance to this “born-again newly on a man”!

Much appreciated,
Michael

Hi folks. I’m an occasional SketchUp user. Used it years ago to design a boathouse for our cottage and am diving back in again to design a rebuild of the cottage itself – whenever I get an hour or two which isn’t as often as I’d prefer. I’m an old hand at 3D (I led the Maya engineering team for 10 years) but am definitely in learning mode with SketchUp.

Hi, I’m Janet Cook, a secondary school teacher who was just given access to a 3D printer. What would be the best tutorial to use so my middle school students (ages 10-12) can create little doodads to print as Father’s Day gifts?

We can use the printer, that’s not the problem. It’s finding some simple tutorials for the kids to use to design their doodads. Most of them are geared towards building towns. We just want to build a keychain fob or something similar.

Hi, I am Lisa and have only been using sketchup since last year when I took a landscape design course that discussed how to use it. That was Sketchup 2017, and now have downloaded 2018.

Hoping to use it to design some gardens, and outdoor hardscape. Maybe one day I will actually have a business, but not yet.

Hi, my name is Dan and I have been retired from an IT management job for about 5 years. I am married (40 years) and have a son & daughter.

I have been a hobbyist woodworker since before I retired. I was inspired by my grandfather who died before I was born. He was a senior executive at Texaco but still managed to make some amazing pieces of furniture. I probably fall into the beginner category for Sketchup although I’ve done my best to model a complex China Cabinet that I plan to build for my wife. I am modeling the China Cabinet to match a Buffet that my grandfather made. I completed the model and have begun the fabrication but I am scared that my design is not correct. I would love to find a mentor who can review my model and provide feedback.

My name is Viktor.

I am working for my own company, but previously I was University teacher and physicist researcher for decades.
Right now I am interested in developing some ruby script to automate the creation
of buildings using special, lego like bulding element.
For this purpose I purchased Sketchup Pro 2018 about half a year ago.
So I would say I use Sketchup for my profession, but I am immersing into ruby World.

I alread designed about 10+ buildings with SU, so perhaps I can consider myself
as intermediate.
SketchUp 3DBasecamp is something to still explore.

My set up?

  • Sketchup Pro 2018, ver. 18.0.16975 64-bit running on
  • Windows 10, 64 bit,
  • 8Gb RAM, Mb: ASUSTeK H110M-A/M.2 (LGA1151), CPU: Intel Core i7 7700 @ 3.60GHz, Storage: Samsung SSD 850 EVO, 2794GB TOSHIBA DT01ACA300
  • Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
  • Oculus Rift Core 2.0 Beta
  • 3D printer: Wanhao Duplicator i3

I will add my web page with my designs later

Hi there
Im John. Thats the best forum guidelines I’ve read - nice work :sunglasses:
Im a jack of all trades, master of none
Presently working on my truck - planing to build a canvas cage canopy for touring
Sketchup has been great for putting mental images into a more tangible medium
Im still very much the noob - basic functions only but thats nearly all I need
I’ve got a fairly powerfull laptop with a GTX 1070 card - seems to do the job
Not presently using 3D warehouse - may have to for the help I need?
Knowledge is to be shared. I’m keen to share what I know … not much

Greetings.

My name is Midorin, a high-school student. I use Sketchup personally.
At first, I searched for a 3D modelling software to help my father’s work since he was still doing Architecture work traditionally. I like it because it’s first 3D modelling software, I guess?
I’m a real beginner on Sketchup, haven’t gone to SketchUp 3DBasecamp.
My current set up is SketchUp 2016 running on a Mid End Laptop(i7 Core Gen 4th, 8GB RAM , and GT 740), and no website to show off.
Don’t have favourite Emoji.
Do I enjoy Long walks on the beach? I don’t really like beach…

Thank you.

My name is Coach White. I teach construction technology at a high school.
I use SketchUp to teach the basics of blueprint reading and to have students design any projects they would like to build. I use SketchUp and Layout because the GA DOE purchased a statewide license for all students/teachers and it’s ease of use. I recently received a grant for the Microsoft HoloLens as well as the SketchUp Viewer App for the HoloLens. I allow students to design their projects and load them into the mixed reality viewer for to walk through and present their design.
I’m probably considered to be a novice when it comes to creating my own designs and with the SketchUp viewer app. I would to attend the basecamp but funding would need to be located first.
I currently am running Sketchup/Layout 2017 & SketchUp Viewer on a Dell laptop with upgraded RAM.
Most used emoji is the thumbs up.
I haven’t liked the beach since a shark ate my float when I was 10. I also dislike the sand.
