Using Sketchup for Schools offline

Hello everybody, I’d like to use Sketchup for Schools offline after logging in with my Google account. I want to be able to use libraries and 3D Warehouse Can I do that applying specific policies in our firewall?

3dwarehouse lives online, not sure how you will use it offline…

In short: No.

I don’t really understand the question. You want to use a product offline that requires online access.

SketchUp for Schools is a browser-based application. You must be online to use it and have a reliable connection. SketchUp recommends that you have a connection with at least 10 Mbps upload and download speeds.

Also, the 3D Warehouse is an online database.

Any specific policies in your firewall are meaningless if you are offline. The firewall is there to control external access. There is no point in controlling websites that are otherwise inaccessible.

(By the way, SketchUp for Schools/ SketchUp for Web will continue to work - at least for a while - if the internet connection is lost, but you cannot save the changes, because basically the saving would be done into the “cloud”. You cannot export it either, since the pre requirement for export is a saved model. If you are offline, you don’t have a “cloud” )

You can use the desktop version offline.

  • To authorize your SketchUp subscription (I guess every month or so), you must have internet access.
  • Some features within SketchUp (e.g. 3D Warehouse!!) also require an internet connection.

Thank you dezmo. I’ll try to be clearer: I want to allow internet access for Sketchup and 3D warehouse only. This should be done with policies on our firewall. So users can access and use Sketchup but not browse the web.

I guess then you have to Blacklist all site and Whitelist Sketchup related ones.
You may consider browser-based control (Kiosk mode) as well.
(I’m not really a networking expert, so the details will have to be figured out by your IT staff. :innocent:)

I asked Trimble AI for you:

Thank you, I’ll try doing so. Have a good day!
