Trying to slice off a corner of a component

I am drawing a plan to screen in our deck and add a corrugated fiberglass roof. I downloaded a model of the corrugated roofing from 3DWarehouse. I have read through a couple of similar question threads but can’t seem to get it to work for me. I’m such a self-taught noob I don’t understand half of what people are saying. Help? My SKP file is too big to upload. Adding a screenshot.

You will see where I have a plane (group) intersecting two of the components I want to slice.

It would help if you share the .skp file instead of a PDF. Upload it to DropBox or Google Drive and share the link.

Probably what you need to do is open that roof panel object for editing and use Intersect Faces>With Model so you create an intersection where that face crosses at the miter angle. After the intersection completes, erase the unneeded geometry.

Never mind - I moved the plane and saw that the model was cut. So exploded the component and deleted the pieces needing deleting. May not be the correct way to do it, but got it to work.

You shouldn’t need to explode the component to get the job done. If you’d done it the way I wrote you would have been left with the component with the corner trimmed off. Few steps and less likely to create issues for you later.

Thanks Dave. Tried way you said first but when I selected the parts to delete, it selected whole original component. That’s when I wrote first post, then I exploded it and it allowed me to delete the sliced segments (in parts). And didn’t load SKP because it was above the 16k limit.

What you describe indicates that the Intersect Faces step was done without first opening the object for editing and selecting the faces inside. When you ran Intersect Faces, then, the edges were created outside of the component container instead of inside where they needed to be to split the faces. Exploding the component worked because the geometry of the component winds up in the same context as the edges from the Intersect step and it all merges.

Probably no point in sharing it now that you have the corner lopped off but in the future, if you want to share a file that is larger than the 16 Mb you can upload the file to Drop Box or similar and share the link.
