I have a LayOut-project where I use two SketchUp-models superimposed in the same layer. The tools will not snap to the model in the background, only to the model in the foreground. Object snapping (Objekteinrastung in German) is active.
Is this a known problem or a limitation of LayOut?
This is known behavior. Dimensions and other tools won’t snap to entities under other entities whether on the same layer or on separate layers. The top viewport prevents access to the one(s) underneath.
Yeah. It would. I do not stack viewports on the same layer in LayOut. Each viewport in the stack gets its own layer so I can easily access viewports lower in the stack for dimensioning.
BTW,
Does this mean you are using viewports from two different SketchUp files stacked up?
No, I use two scenes from the same SketchUp file. I tried using different LayOut layers for the models but that didn’t make a difference. The upmost model is accessible to snapping only.
Yes. I already wrote that. I put the viewports on separate layers so I can turn off the layer(s) above to dimension to the viewport below.
These dimensions are snapped to the viewport with the dashed lines. I turned off the layer for the viewport with the solid lines before adding the dimensions.
Well, it has always been this way. Maybe someone would make a feature request and it could be implemented. Until then it might be that you could set up the scenes differently and work around this or use the same scene for both viewports. In my case both the dashed line and the solid line viewports use the same scene so dimensioing from the bottom of the groove to the bottom of the half pin on the dovetail joint is simple enough.
What I try to achieve is to use scenes as layers as it would be impossible (I think) or very error-prone to do it in one scene itself.
I am using SketchUp and LayOut in an architectural context. I have plan view sections and top views of floors as scenes for drawings in LayOut. I need a ceiling plan drawing in top view. I thought the easiest would be a SU-scene of the floor above (which contains the floor slab which is the ceiling of the floor below) with only the floor visible and then superimpose a scene of the floor with only the elements on the underside of the ceiling visible (all controlled by tags).
Maybe there is an easier way to do that.
Again, it is not intuitive that not all elements you see in LayOut are snap-able.
