"This model failed file integrity checks and cannot be opened”

Unfortunately, purging with 2024 didn’t cause any problems. If you think of any other action you also did, that may be the real cause, let us know what that would have been.

Hello everyone.
I’m facing the same problem with this file.

I received it from a colleague who was using Sketchup 2024.

According to him, the file was opening perfectly. So he made some edits, after saving it, closed the program, and sent it to me (via email) the file started to present this problem.

When I tried to open the file on my computer (Skp 2024 Pro) I informed him that the file was corrupt, and he tried to open it again and couldn’t either, showing the same message “This model failed file integrity checks and cannot be opened.” - which indicates that the error probably happened at the time of saving.

Sketchup didn’t close unexpectedly. It was a common action: saving the file and closing Sketchup afterwards.

I tried to open the file through Trimble Connect Web and it was not possible. I also received a message saying that the file was corrupt.

If anyone can identify the problem or suggest a way to recover the file, that would be great!

Cheers!

There are two different problems, one where you get the file integrity error, and I can do something about those. The other is where the file gets overwritten with zeros. We still don’t know what causes either problem, but this file has the second issue, and I can’t fix those.

Do you have earlier files? Like, how was the file sent to you? Can I try that copy of the file?

Hi guys. How is it going? First time over here, so I hope I don’t mess anything up.

Same problem. Saved the file and closed Sketchup. When I tried to open the file again, error message pops up.

Is ti possible to fix it?
Is there anything to be done to prevent this kind of behaviour?

Thank you very much in advance!

I was able to open your file. There were some bad components in it. Probably something from the 3D Warehouse. I also see you are using tags incorrectly. Untagged should be left active at all times. All edges and faces should be created and remain untagged.

This is the result of fixing the incorrect tag usage.

I also purged unused stuff.

Hi Dave. That’s impressive. Thank you very much, not only for fixing the file, but also to take the time and effort to explain.

Very appreciated.

Hello,
When I tried to open the file, i get a warning like “This model failed file integrity checks and cannot be opened”. I upload to file to wetransfer. Do you have a solution for this error? Thanks

We added something to SketchUp last year to take care of the integrity error. If there isn’t a reason you need to keep using 2023, you could get a later version of SketchUp, and be able to open the file.

Here is the file. It is a 2025 file now, but it will open in 2023.
