This does not appear to be a sketchup model (SU 2024)

LostCoastMark2.skp (10.5 MB)

Good afternoon. I am very new here, but have been using SketchUp for many years. Tonight, after restarting my computer, I got the error "This does not appear to be a SketchUp model. " The.SPB file is the same size as the.SKP file. Everything was going well until I restarted the PC. I tried to search the web in hope of finding anything, but came up short. Not sure if anyone can help, but I greatly appreciate it. I had been using SU 2024 Pro, and downloaded 2025 Pro tonight in hopes of opening the file, but no luck. Thank you so much in advance.

**I will mention this is stored on the PC on my m2 drive (separate from the C drive), not on a cloud or thumbdrive.

Unfortunately the .skp file contains nothing but zeroes. Not even a Sketchup header.

Maybe there’s something recoverable in the .skb file.

Long shot but you might look in User/AppData/Local/SketchUp/SketchUp 2025/SketchUp/Working and see if there’s a copy there that can be opened.

You weren’t also saving to your Trimble Connect storage, too, were you?

Did you install SketchUp 2025 correctly by right clicking on the installer and choosing Run as administrator?

Thank you for the quick response! Luckily I found a backup of it on my Backblaze… So I only lost about an hour of work.

I don’t think I have Trimble connect set up as I have never used it. I did install 2025 in the way you mentioned. I will double check the temp files, and upload the SKB when I get home. Again thank you so much!

You should take advantage of the Trimble Connect storage to save as a backup to the files saved on the internal drive. There’s unlimited storage included as part of your subscription.

Good deal that you were able to get at least something of the model.
