This does not appear to be a Sketchup model! Error

@phoju In your forum profile you mention License Type: Free Plan and SketchUp Version: 2023. There is no such a version.
Are you using cracked version of Sketchup?

The file is totally empty, filled with zeros.

hi there,
there are 142 messages above yours, lots of separate people.
In every case of “my file doesn’t open” discussed there, the first thing asked was for people to provide their file.

please do so. you can use wetransfer if the forum says it’s too big.

absent a file, nobody can provide any help.

Even i have the same issue please help me

New folder - 1.zip (332.8 KB)

Just looking at your zip file tells me that your model is almost totally filled with zeroes (it compresses to 10% of the original size) and probably cannot be recovered. A SKP model is already compressed so zipping it shouldn’t reduce its size, much. Have you checked the backup (SKB) file?

yeah, compressing a 350mb file into a 350kb zip is never a good sign…

I’m facing the same error with my essential file, which I’ve been working on for a client for three weeks. I need it fixed urgently.
I can’t upload the large file here, but you can access it via the link below. Thank you!

You. skp file contains nothing but zeroes. This is the first part of your file opened in a hex editor.

A large part of the .skb file also consists of nothing but zeroes and is not recoverable.

Where were you saving the file while working on it? Are you using a cr acked version of SketchUp? Were you saving a backup copy of the file to Trimble Connect?

Thankyou for the quick response.
Actually i was working on this file on my computer drive only
I did not want to save it on trimble connect
while working on the project I had a powercut and my PC turned off when I turned it on and opened the file there was no recovery file
is there anything we can do about it?

Unfortunately there is no way to replace the zeroes with anything meaningful. I think starting over is the only thing you can do about it. Save frequently. Maybe invest in a backup power supply for the computer.

Why not? If you had been saving to Trimble Connect in addition to the local save you would have viable backup copies of the file and wouldn’t have to start over from nothing.

Can you remember whether you were working at the time of the power cut? Trying to figure out if it’s very bad timing, and that a power cut happening while you were saving at the time.

All of sudden one my project file with extension .skp started showing the same issue. I have tried renaming the back up file from .skb to skp, it didn’t work. can someone help on this how to recover the file. it’s almost 7 days of work. I can share the file at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Ist2JQvWwN9xExMgwu7bfjeG0Cgn627S/view?usp=sharing

The file you shared contains nothing but zeroes.

There is absolutely nothing to recover. You could try sharing the .skb file to see if there’s naything viable in it.

Where were you saving the file while working on it? Are you using a cr acked version of SketchUp? Did you have any sort of power interruption?

Hi, I also have a very large corrupt file after Windows crashed. The .skb rename didn’t work.
What software do people us to try to repair corrupt files? I don’t have any other backups, so will lose a lot of time if I can’t fix it.
The file still shows a large file gb count.

Thank you

Are you using sketchup 2020? Share your file so we can check if it’s recoverable or not. It doesn’t exist a software that repairs corrupted sketchup files.

Thanks Francisquitof, I’m using the current 2025 software though.
It’s 1.1gb with a few 3d trees in the file, I’m currently uploading it online to share if anyone can help.

Please update your forum profile. It shows you are using SketchUp 2020.

1.1 GB is a huge file but we’ll see.

thank you.
