When does it appear? What does it mean?

That indicates Hidden Geometry

To hide it:
Go to View and uncheck Hidden Geometry (and Hidden Objects)

I haven’t come across this in any of the manuals.

Could you tell me which manual describes this?

Double click into the group to check- the geometry might be inside

Can you share the .skp file? It will be much easier to check directly.

also click on the background to deselect it.

you selected it, likely in the outliner, and therefore it’s showing as hidden graphics.

there are no manuals. no official ones at least. what are you using as a manual ?

Mostly videos. Mostly based on personal experience. In 10 years, I haven’t come across such an selection.

yeah, so, you placed some raw geometry on tags.

because of that, doing a triple click on it will also select (in ghost mode) the raw geometry on hidden tags.

you’re supposed to tag groups and components, not raw geometry.
