The problem with (display) windows in the new version 2024

Hey there - just installed the newest version on two different machines - both win11 and both with an RTX3060 / RTX3090 graphics card. both using two identical screens - both have this problem.

also is sketchup always starting up as a window(not maximzed) and always on the same screen (even if i moved it to the other and close it later)

this is a pain - using 2023 now until it’s fixed.

I’m just checking in to see if the multiscreen issue has been resolved for version 2024. Thanks

Not yet. They are still working on it. The 24.0.2 release is just a minor security patch.

I don’t think so. I bet it won’t be fixed this year.

You do know so, dezmo. The question of when has always been “after it is fully tested.”

It is not uncommon for major library upgrades to only be included in major application releases, because of the amount of testing required. If this ends up being the 2025 release, then that would be when. But hopefully we could get it this fall with a 2024.1 minor release.

I again refer readers to the statements I made some time ago.

Hello,

I have made the last update of sketchup, nothing changes, problems with screens steel the same;
I have alway this cell size problem for texture and pins problèms, am i the only one?
I am disappointed for this skethup 2024…

This morning I installed Sketchup 24.0.594 64-bit to see if this monitor issue was fixed but unfortunately it’s still there.

I have a Radeon RX580 setup with two Samsung SyncMaster BX2350 monitors set at 1920x1080.

When I click my right mouse button on my left screen, which is the screen where my model is, the menu opens on the right screen. Same goes for the menu buttons.

Even though I can unplug my right monitor, this issue is quite annoying.

The release notes for 24.0.2 clearly state …

Known issues

The following are known issues that will ship in 2024.0.2 and will be addressed in a future release:

  • High DPI scaling issues and Multi-monitor issues will still persist.

As said above, it was only a mini security patch.

Hey guys, reinstalled SketchUp 2024 in the hope that the problem has been fixed, since it’s been more than 7 months since the release… Still doesn’t work. Up to this point we have better luck waiting for SketchUp 2025 before they repair this version.

I refer you to my previous comments, which are still valid since there have been no releases since.

You are 100% right, however:
The complaint was not against whether they mentioned what they could not fix, but against not fixing it. :innocent:

And the assumption in this sentence most likely is right… :disappointed_relieved:

Temp fix for Laptop/PC connected to 2 monitors: Make the monitor 1 that previews the SU menu panel the “main display” monitor under display settings. Then work off monitor 2 and the menu will show up on monitor 2 with the sketchup windows.

This doesn’t work for my setup.
Surface Book out to Surface Dock and into StarTech multi display USB-C to 3x HDMI splitter
3 Screens (Surface Book is closed)
All three screens are QHD (2560x1440)
SketchUp is “pinned” for some reason to display #2 even though display #1 is my “Main Display” as you can see in the picture below.
Checked for updates. Loaded V 24.0.594 and still the same problem.
Does not matter which screen is chosen, SketchUp always opens on screen 2 and when I drag it onto either screen 1 or screen 3, the menu still opens on screen 2.
As for now I am just dealing with it but it certainly slows me down and is very frustrating. But comparing to being homeless, a hostage or my house burning down? Meh I will deal with it.
Hope they come up with a fix soon…thank you SU team…and this forum…

There is no fix for SU2024. You can try to play around with which monitor is the main one, you can also try switch off one of the monitor. But that’s all!
If you have a certain monitor / resolution/ graphics card constellation, then it sucks! That’s it. That is the fact.

I’m not a beginner, believe me,I tried everything, I mean, everything to get 2024 to work properly on my dual-screen laptop. After several months of trying without success, I simply deleted it.
I use my SU2023 (and older ones).
The SU2025 will be better, I hope.

Tough to argue with that one…

Don’t try to argue under any circumstances…

I have noticed that users having a display with a vertical resolution of 1440 seem to have the most issues. Perhaps the Qt library version used by SU24 do not handle the one and a third HD height well?

I have an issue right now, since i connect my asus rog strix16 with an rtx 4080 to another monitor and now when i disconnect and try to use sketchup on my laptop the addlocation window doesn’t appear. Also it is not available in the other monitor as well, also i have the issue with menus poping up on the connected monitor when my sketchup is open on my laptop mornitor. what can be done to fix this

When the Add location window has focus, you can try to hold the Win key whilst repeatedly clicking the UP-arrow key. This moves the window with focus around between the displays.

SketchUp remembers the last coordinates used for child windows. If you had them on an external display, they will get opened offscreen after you disconnect the external display.
If you know in advance that you will be disconnecting an external display, you can open the dialogs and move them to the internal display then close them. And then close SketchUp and the new dialog window locations should be saved.

On SU 2024, … it is a bug that the Qt library has with your hardware.
You could try setting your resolution to something other than 1440 vertical. (Qt seems to have a problem with this.)

Can you also try 2025 to see if that corrects the issue you’re having?
