"The document "xxx" could not be saved. The backup file couldn't be saved"

Hello -

Mac, Sketchup Pro 2025

Suddenly, a file that I’ve been working on for months gives me this error message (in the subject line).
The rest of the error message reads “The backup file might be locked, or you may not have permission to save it. To view or change permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose File > Get Info.”

The permissions for this file and its backup are identical to other files that are working without any problems. I can do a “Save As” (and replace) to save the file but the backup does not update. Any ideas about what might be going on?

Thanks -

never mind, y’all. I copied the file in to another folder then trashed the original file. Moved the copy back to the original folder and everything’s working now.

Does sound like a permissions thing for no obvious reason. If I’m unsure of file corruption or the such and Save As… is available, I frequently do that with version numbers and end up over the course of of project with dozens of previous progress versions of the file - kind of fall backs in case something really goes wrong.
