Table of Contents auto text

Auto-text has been a game changer for so many aspects of creating drawing sets in layout, but one area that can still be a struggle is table of contents (especially if using dicipline/type/sheet based sheet numbering) I think it works well for page x of y, but manual editing is still required for alpha numeric sheets.

For instances like this, a location based auto text would be incredible. For example in the screen shots below, my table of contents is on the notes page (sheet A0.1, page 2 of 76) Sheet names are always on the bottom right portion of my sheet in the title block, if there was a selection box that could be interpreted as “zones” that would populate. So for instance like when you want to add the name of a page to the TOC currently you could use <PageName(1)>, <PageName(2)> and so on, then… when you set up your zones the TOC could reference <Zone1(1)> <Zone2(1)>, <Zone1(2)> <Zone2(2)> and so on.

Has anyone from the team at LayOut seen this???

If something like this isn’t possible, will there ever be the ability to write scripts for layout, like SU? I think this is a big enough deal on every project for me that I would spend the time and/or money to figure it out if there was an API for LayOut.

But read the caveat in “Using the LayOut Ruby API in SketchUp.”

Hi @2atays … I love the auto-text feature in LayOut. We also use alphanumeric sheet numbering and set it up in our standard template by creating a custom auto-text field. I’ve attached a screenshot of our sheet index. Everything boxed in red is auto-text.

Note that L1 (grayed in the screenshot) begins with “00” for the cover sheet but the rest of the prefixes begin with “01”.

I hope this helps!

This is basically how we do ours as well (aside from the x of x page). I could add that auto text, which I think would be helpful for some trades, and/or not having to say go to I1.04 I could say go to sheet 22, which is also called I1.04. If we could get that center column on your (and my) sheet index, it would be a beautiful world, with so much lower chance for human error.
PS, love the way your revisions are laid out. They stay in my title block, oriented the opposite direction, very difficult to add much in way of information.
