Hi community,

I created this ribbon using a dwg elevation to copy the profile. I aligned it to position the base, then push pull ( profile) so it overhangs the base perimeter. I then exploded base (group) shift+ selected the profiles ( top + bottom) right click intersect faces with model.

I then hide the profile objects, and was left with the base with intersected profiles. I then deleted the base ( as i only need the profiles following the shape of the base) …however the top + bottom faces have disappeared or not been made during the workflow.

Pls can someone tell me where it has gone wrong ? or what would be the method to fill in these faces.

many thanks

Intersect faces does not generally create new faces, so you would have to close the missing ones by manually “stitching” edges across them. Because of the curves, the stitching may be a bit tedious.

If the portions are modeled as solids, you could do this better with the solid tools trim, which will create faces.

Hi Jean,

Thank you so much for providing such a detailed step by step skp file.

I tried following your step by step. I got stuck at this point below.

I push & pull the bottom and centre faces from the ( drawing rectangle). I then Selected everything ( exploded base group) \> intersected with selection \> but then I tried to delete the faces on side ( blue circles) these were connected to the ribbons and deleted the entire ribbon! so did not work for me this.

I went back a few steps to undo, instead made the rectangle drawing wider so that it over hangs the base sides profile. Then followed the workflow again, by intersected with selection or Model ( one of the two) this now worked and I was able to finish the remaining steps.

I guess you already have a solution but I’ll throw this out as an alternative. I think a little less manipulation and cleanup required. I modeled the base as two separate solids. The outer one is made with a profile and Follow Me to include the flared part at the top. Subtract removes the curved sections of the outer part. If the base is supposed to be monolithic, Outer Shell can be used to do that. I didn’t show that part here.

Here’s the Outer Shell before I delete the model.
