What am I missing here. Solid plain colors in old models are high gloss with enviroment turned on, and so are 2025 plain colors. Difference is, that with 2025 plain colors I have both Metalness and Roughness slider.
But no matter what I do - I can not seem to get rid of the glossiness - so what to do - when I do NOT want gloss on plain colors ?
Simple option: Change the face style to Shaded with Texture.
You can also turn off Metalness and Roughness in Preferences or switch to the CLassic graphics engine.
BTW, please update your forum profile. It says you’re still using SketchUp 2021.
Thanks - Sorry - I see I was not clear
It´s the situation where I want the new materials in my model - combined with solid plain colors with no reflection.
So enviroment is turned on, and so is Display photoreal materials.
In general I do not understand why Solid colors in this situation as standard has Gloss ON. And what I really do not get, is the issue that it can not be turned OFF. That is why I think there must be something i have missed out
Thanks
You can turn off “Gloss” for materials. Select the In Model material and edit it to turn off Metalness and Roughness.
The material on the left still has Metalness and Roughness enabled.
Here I’ve enabled those settings for the red again.
These materials are basic and don’t have reflection / etc… but when you use an environment you need to check the settings.
Thanks - I know this is possible - but it allso means that you can not have the new 2025 photo realistic materials to show up with reflections TOGETHER with plain colors with NO refelctions.
Thanks for your answers - have a nice Day
In my case I think I will end up in V-ray as usual. Had hoped this new 2025 feature might give my more speed for semi-nice presentation of projects not yet ordered. I design bespoke interiors. Drawings might be changede up to 2 times in dialogue with customer, so if the first time cloud be without time for setting up V-ray materials and rendering - it would have saved me time.
Sure, but if I take a box and paint it and decide to shoot it in a studio with a light box / soft light and then take the same box and put it outside the light / reflections will change…
Maybe don’t use the environments at all, and just use the new materials / old materials? Or set it up in LayOut and stack viewports?
ahhhh - stacking viewports - did not think of that - good idea.
Thanks
I see those reflective artifacts in the materials, like a rendering bug.
