Start-up advice maybe Laptop recommendations

Hello
I’m a total Newbie, in Rookie stripes, to SU and need everything to be in very (read that as ‘exceedingly’) simply language.
Please ignore any info that reads ‘Web, 2025 Desktop’. without filling in the box the system would not let me sign up!

To explain…I’m a retired architect, who 20 years ago used AutoCad. I am wanting to re-configure a property, before moving in, and need to produce all the Planning and Working dwgs, which I’m keen to do. After due diligence I purchased SU Pro to create these drawings. The licence arrived yesterday and i have now spent a solid, very frustrating, 24 hrs attempting to get started.

Nada…I have all the tools but just a black working area which i think is called the interface.

After much research in every possible direction, i have followed all the advice i could find ie uninstalled and re-installed SU, and changed my screen to classic graphics engine…nada. Reading everything has been like learning a totally new language!

I am therefore left with only one thought - my trusty workhorse HP Pavilion x360 13-s108na Convertible Laptop is too old (purchased 2017) to meet all the system requirements (a video card with min 8 VRAM, to support 3.1 OpenGL and compatible with 32-bit colour depth…a totally new language to me!)

My question to all is this…could anyone recommend a a foolproof start-up of SU!

If that is not possible due to aged equipment (I might include myself in this!) could anyone recommend a similar laptop to allow me to produce all the drawings etc i need to complete this project. I need a transportable workhorse laptop that allows me to continue all my usual use of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and photo editing packages.

Many thanks…But please keep it simple

Other features to think about are, touch screen or not, screen size, (with my worn-out eyes, the bigger the better) Portability. (Too big and heavy is a hassle)

I currently run on a Razer Blade 18 (2024) w/ RTX 4080 GPU. I use it for professional work so I did not mind the price tag being that it is powerful, has a large screen, yet manages to be fairly compact.

Thank you for your reply….I am currently looking into your suggestions.
