I think it would be very useful to be able to have 2 or more scenes open at the same time, kind of like a split screen. That way, when I am working on something far away from the opposite end of an object, I can see how adjust the far end might affect the opposite end.
A current project that I am working on is having a cabinet in the kitchen that has 2-way action drawers. I want to be able to show the customer and anyone one else what happens when you open the cabinet door on the garage side, when you have the door open or closed on the kitchen side. But to be able to see both at the same time, like a split screen.
The split screen feature comes up every once in a while over the more than 23 years I’ve been using SketchUp. It’s not likely that it will ever happen at this point in time.
How long can you put off your customer while waiting for the feature? Would you be open to something you can do now?
In this case I flipped the component copy on the guideline so it’s like looking in a mirror. You could instead rotate the copy to show the model as if standing in the garage while opening the cabinet from the kitchen side.
I would wonder if it’s legal. Here the building code requires that walls separating the house from the garage meet certain fire ratings. My guess, and it’s only a guess, is that a cabinet with some sort of pass through would not meet the code.
I would think. Every state adopts and then modifies a model code, usually the International Residential Code (IRC), but generally the wall between garage and house is supposed to have 5/8" Firecode Gypsum board, and the door is supposed to be solid core or 20 minute rated and on a self closer.
