Solid objects and Solid tools

I have made a door for example and put it into a group or component. But Sketchup does not recognise it like a Solid group/component. That’s why I cannot use solid tools on my door. Is there a quick way to convert Non Solid group/component into Solid one? Thank you

Share the .skp file so we can see what you have set up. There are many possibilities for what you are seeing but there’s no point making us guess.

Are you only using an iPad? If you also use a PC or Mac you can use the Solid Inspector extension to help you fix the model or find the problem.

Did you make the door into a component and then put it within another group or components?

Solid tools do not work on nested entities. The object you are trying to perform a solid operation on must be at the same level in the model as the one you are using for the operation.

If this is not the issue and you drew your door, then made it into a component then the issue could be stray edges, interior faces, surface outlines without a closing face, etc.

So if I explode each level of my door and then group everything together on one level Solid tools should work?

Maybe. Better to use ‘outer shell’ or ‘union’ - but then you’ll have a mass of geometry and no individual parts.

You could copy out the part you want to use the solid tools on, make the change, then copy it back.

It would be good to see the skp file and see what you are trying to do. You can download it to your computer and drag it here and someone could have a look.

If they’re small enough to post here, You can upload SketchUp files straight from the SketchUp folder in iPad as well.
