So. freaking. tired. of the SU Youtube ads

Hey Trimble,

stop bombarding me with SU ads on YouTube. I already bought it. If I have to hear that stupid song one more GD time, I’m going to lose it. I’ve blocked like 17 of these ads and I still see at least 5 ads for SU every time I open YouTube. I’m about to switch to a different software out of spite from how much I despise these ads.

Please knock it off.

Sincerely, someone who already paid for a Pro license.

Thanks.

Maybe you should contact Google that owns You(r)tube.
It’s their algorithms that sends you those adds according to your interests.

use an adblocker.

complain to google. it’s their algorithm that detected that you’re interested in sketchup

sure, and expect new ads about the new software within a few weeks.

nope. I also use Rhino and Solidworks and have been for years, and haven’t seen a single ad. There’s no adblocker on Roku.

Ok, I had to go check what roku is.

yeah, closed systems sucks. nothing like a black box that you can’t tweak eh? there are apparently ways to kinda go around, but it’s not 100% smooth
oar setup a PieHole as your DNS, it blocks all kinds of advertising at your home level.

but it’s not entry-level either.

or pay the piper multi billion dollar company for ad free premium. ughh.

Sorry for the inconvenience! If we had a tool to define who was a paid customer from “someone who has shown interest in SketchUp”, we would scratch you off the list… until then… all we can do is say sorry…

Wait, Aaron-gorn - you don’t have an all seeing eye that can look into users homes and serve up ads based on their software use?

I’m disappointed.

But also, I have to admit - you look really hot here.

Get YouTube premium, I got it a couple years ago, I haven’t seen any Ads since then, it has more features that I find useful as well, like being able to hear a video even with the phone locked. I don’t know if it’s a premium feature but most of the content creators have sponsors, I can skip those sponsors just by double clicking or double tapping on the video and continue with the content that I want yo see or hear.

it’s so incredibly aggravating. I watched YouTube videos for a couple hours last night and I literally saw 10 sketchup ads, despite having blocked Trimble in ad center. I’m so tired of it. not sure you could have picked a more irritating song to use in the ad.

check the ads parameters of your youtube account, you can stop them from showing tailored ads to your browsing.

because tailored ads are stupid. they show you stuff you already know / like / have

on the other hand, an ad about tampons or pencils, now that’s something you don’t expect !

edit : I might sound sarcastic here, but I really think it’s stupid to show me ads about stuff I recently bought.

I may have an unpopular opinion here, but I honestly don’t understand the outrage about YouTube ads.

If you watch YouTube occasionally, sure, ads can be annoying. But if you’re consuming hours of content every week, you’re using a service that costs an enormous amount of money to operate. Servers, bandwidth, development, support, content moderation, and creator payouts don’t magically pay for themselves.

As professionals, most of us expect to be paid for our own work. We don’t tell our clients, “Please use our services for free because paying is inconvenient.” Yet somehow many people expect online platforms to provide unlimited value at no cost.

If the ads bother you that much and you use YouTube heavily, YouTube Premium seems like a reasonable solution. You’re essentially paying for a service that you clearly find valuable enough to use every day.

I’m not defending every decision Google makes, but I do think there’s a strange expectation these days that everything on the internet should be free forever. That’s simply not how sustainable businesses work.

Wait until people start to see the true cost of AI. Once we get out of the honeymoon / free trial / the companies run out of loopholes and tax breaks and shell game cash we will hopefully have to start paying the real cost.

Yust use a different browser - try Brave browser and you will see no ads at all

100% agree with this. The amount of great content available on YouTube is incredible. Ive actually ditched all my sport TV subscriptions in favour of YouTube as the official highlights are available pretty quickly and I seldom have time to watch live anyway. I think YouTube premium is an absolute bargain. :+1:

in 2025 youtube made 60 billion $
something like +20 billion compared to 2024

how ? more ads. more agressive ad cuts.

I’m fine with some ads, especially if they pay for the content creation. as time passes, we get more ads. and more ads. and more ads. long ones. un-skippable ones. ads in the middle. and in the end. and when you talk to content creators, they don’t get more money. a very select few do, most of them don’t.
worse, to avoid ANY risk of getting sued, as soon as someone lays a claim on something in your video, monetisation stops. even if you prove it’s a bogus claim (as many many are, just abusive claims), it doesn’t mean monetisation will come back soon, if ever.

most long time youtubers I follow make a living through patreon and donations (if they stream). not ad revenue. Some even stopped monetising their videos, because they know a claim troll will be around within days to steal the money.

so yeah, more ads, they bring more money to youtube, not the creators. and when people can’t take it anymore, they buy youtube premium, and that goes mainly to youtube.

and youtube makes record profits.

tl;dr, free is ok. Paid is ok. some ads is ok.
getting blasted by more ads than content is not ok. especially if it’s greed, not community support.

I use Ublock, and there are many sites where I’ve turned it down. I get that their ads pay for the infrastructure and all. I’m game.

youtube is not one of them.
