Sleepless Night

It’d be hard to throw anyway. It’s almost 7-1/2 cubic meters.

Good for the Jolly Green Giant :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:

Now you’re moving into Box’s territory! :slightly_smiling_face:

Not very far.

Circles, circles, circles.

Nice circles!

Thank you.

Cool ! Some kind of gear reduction thingy ?

It’s actually a steam engine. It does have some gears in it, though. They are on the outside of that case.

I think the piston and valve works are interesting. I’ll think about a good way to show them while I’m adding screws and hex nuts.

Now you made me curious - what is happening inside the enclosed part? I started wondering if a Wankel-type steam engine would be possible…

Seems to me it’s not far off of a Wankel but it isn’t one. Just under the red cover is a rotating valve that lets steam through a small pot in the brass place. Steam inlet is that brass tube.

Behind the brass plate is the rotating piston and another valve sort of thing.

I haven’t timed the engine yet but I think the steam expands in the space above the sort of blade on the piston making it rotate anti-clockwise. I expect you have to give the flywheel a puch to get it going but I’m not entirely sure. It’s an experimental engine and I’m not sure how well it ran for the builder.

Fabulous ! Love the “boomerang” laminate on the top.

Thank you sir. Somewhere I have several different colors of the boomerang Formica as textures.

That was my first thought. Definitely different.

Starting another engine.

This will be a 4-cylinder oscillator.
