SketchUp thumbnails no longer appear on macOS Tahoe, iPadOS and iOS

,

Hello SketchUp Support Team,

I would like to report an issue related to SketchUp file thumbnails.

Since updating to the latest Apple operating systems, SketchUp (.skp) thumbnails are no longer displayed in Finder on macOS, nor in the Files app on iPadOS and iOS.

I have performed extensive testing and can confirm the following:

  • The issue occurs on multiple Mac computers.

  • The issue occurs on iPhone and iPad as well.

  • I tested SketchUp 2023, 2025 and 2026.

  • I completely reinstalled SketchUp on different devices.

  • Newly created SketchUp files also do not generate thumbnails.

  • Quick Look previews are not generated correctly.

  • The problem appears to have started after updating to macOS Tahoe and the corresponding iOS/iPadOS versions.

Because the same behavior occurs across several Macs, iPhones and iPads, this does not appear to be a device-specific installation issue.

The lack of thumbnails makes it very difficult to identify projects and significantly impacts daily workflow, especially for users who manage large numbers of SketchUp files.

Could you please confirm whether this is a known issue and if a fix is currently being developed?

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,

Just an FYI… This is a user forum, not a direct connection to support. This has come up and I believe Colin had a solution toward the end of this thread:
