It’s quite the adventure trying to create a custom interface layout, only to be met with the infamous Toolbar Tango again and again! Could we hope for an interface lockdown feature someday? Or is there a secret spell to keep my carefully crafted workspace steady on the dance floor?
Thankfully, I’ve kept the extensions to a minimum for this performance—imagine the chaos if they were all loaded!
What you are showing is typically attributed to the file that saves the toolbar locations not being written correctly and that’s usually due to SketchUp having insufficient permissions granted by Windows during installation. To ensure those permissions are granted you need to right click on the installer and choose Run as administrator. If you didn’t do that or don’t remember, close SketchUp and LayOut now, find the installer in the Downloads folder, right click on it, choose Run as administrator and then, when prompted, choose Repair. After that a cold reboot, open SketchUp and set up your toolbars as needed. open a model and save it. Then close SketchUp. When it reopens your toolbars ought to be in the right places. If not, there’s another, more drastic step but see where that gets you first.
Hi Dave i religiously always install SketchUp using right click run as admin for many years using SketchUp hence im puzzled why this is happening
maybe try a repair in this case but wil that automatically bring back my custom layout os stabalise it after i repair and rearrange for the 4th time tonight LOL - Whiskey time hahah
Hello,
Once you re-arrange everything, save your model as, even if it’s empty, and make sure no other instance of SketchUp is running before closing.
I noticed that in some cases, juste closing SketchUp without saving was not enough for it to remember toolbar positions on a fresh installation
Yeah im aware of that - but really im more focused on base product stability on a software product toolbar layout - Suppose that is the only fix so far
