I didn’t find any posts that mentioned this, so figured I’d share my recent findings.
Just installed Sketchup Pro 2024 on my Lenovo Legion gaming laptop with an RTX 3080. Even just opening a template (eg not even opening a real file) - very laggy mouse action! Saw some posts complaining about lag in 2024, so I tried Sketchup 2023 and 2022 – same issue. It was sort-of usable, but really frustrating. Kept poking around - tried Classic vs New Graphics engine - no difference. Confirmed it was using the RTX 3080, not an iGPU. Still no improvement.
Finally figured out – it’s G-SYNC! You can control this from the NVidia Control Panel.
- When I disabled G-SYNC entirely from the NVidia Control Panel, no problem (smooth mouse action)!
- When I re-enabled it, but only for full-screen, still no problem!
- And finally - I re-enabled for windowed + full-screen mode, but went into 3D Settings > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > Trimble SketchUp > Monitor Technology => Fixed Refresh.
And that solved it for me! I hope this is useful for someone else too!
