Sketchup Pro 2017 Constantly Crashing

Hello and Ty in advance for any help I might get on this…

I purchased Sketchup Pro 2017 back when it first came out. I spent the time to learn it and became somewhat proficient with the software. I build custom Millwork pieces in my shop and used the software for building projects virtually before fabricating them in the shop. I used the software for a year and then stopped using it when I started fabricating projects that were designed by others.
Fast forward 2 years and I started using Sketchup again. My other projects are on hold because of the COVID 19 crisis, and I’m using Sketchup to finish some old projects that were put on hold.

OK, no more backstory… Everytime I use the software, it crashes after about 5 or 7 minutes. The program generates a crash report, and I click “send report info” in the dialogue box. The software shuts down, and the autosave sometimes saves most of my work. After this happening 3 times in a 25 minute period, I realized it was not an isolated incident. The software is UNUSABLE.
So is there anything that can be done? Or is this Trimbles way of forcing us to pay for a new license and upgrade to Sketchup 2020???
If that’s the case, all I can say is…NOT COOL!

Alex

Trimble is not trying to force you into upgrading. That’s for certain.

It sounds like this is new behavior for you. SketchUp 2017 Pro has not changed since 2017 so if this behavior is new, you need to look at what has changed on your system. Common problems that can cause this are broken graphics drivers, especially for Intel graphics. Windows updates are notorious for pushing broken drivers for Intel GPU. You might try going to the Intel site and getting their current drivers.
