SketchUp on iPad Performance Has Nosedived

Posting here, because there’s no dedicated forum for iOS…

Before, playing a slideshow, I was getting full frame rate with shadows on my iPad Air (M2 processor). Then, for no apparent reason, on the same model, performance has crashed: no shadows and stuttering animation. It will drop into the normal frame rate for a few seconds, but then go back to stuttering. I tried closing down other applications and restarted the iPad, to no avail. Anyone got any ideas what could be going on here..???

Is the file stored in the cloud or locally - that would make a difference.

What is the file size?

Maybe you could share the SketchUp model file so we can see what you are working with.

Have you rebooted the ipad? People tend to leave their mac devices running indefinitely, turning them off and on occasionally can fix a variety of issues. (same with phones, android etc)
My Ipad recently wouldn’t charge properly, a power off got it back on track.

I’ve experience that too.

Hmm. I’ve been experiencing something similar on desktop SU2026 for Mac (M1 Max). Working normally one minute, and suddenly like someone flipped a switch, and performance is anywhere from sluggish to almost frozen.

Always been stored in the Cloud, wasn’t an issue before…

I sated in my OP that I had done that…

Model size is 74 MB

I’ve got it stored locally in the Files app, now… no difference :frowning:

It would be interesting to see your SketchUp file. I wonder if it’s something in the file causing the performance issue.

Dave – it’s the Falkestrasse model that’s on the 3D warehouse…

This one?

I can see why you might have a performance hit with that model. There isn’t a group or component anywhere in it. All the components such as the chairs around the table have been exploded to raw geometry.

I wonder why it’s 74Mb on your iPad. It’s only 11 Mb (10.9 Mb) in the 3D Warehouse.

I’ve added to it and grouped stuff by material… thing is, it was working buttery smooth on my iPad M2, while my M1 iPad Pro struggled with it… earlier versions of the model work better, but still not as smoothly as before…

So you haven’t shared the file that is giving you problems.

So the model has changed rather than the software?
That speaks to me as something structural with the file that has hurt performance.

you made it sound as if one day you woke up and it was worse than the day before

Cloud storage should not affect performance when working on a model because the app caches a temporary local version of the file while you are working on it.

That’s exactly what happened… working smoothly, then abysmally, from one day to the next with the same model…

How about performing a hard reboot on the i.Pad?
