SketchUp floor plan not connecting properly — need advice on grouping and improving my workflow

Hi everyone,

I’m a bit stuck with my SketchUp floor plan and could use some guidance. At the moment, the geometry doesn’t seem to be fully connected in places, and I’m not sure whether I’m grouping things correctly.

I’d really appreciate it if someone could take a look at my SketchUp file and let me know:

  • What I’m doing wrong with the connections in the floor plan.
  • How I should be grouping components or geometry properly.
  • Any advice on how I can improve my workflow and get better at SketchUp going forward.

I’m still learning, so any feedback or tips would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Go to the Sketchup campus and SketchUp YouTube
Both offer great tutorials and videos that should help with your questions.

It will take a lot of time to explain you what’s wrong with your model, basically it lacks of a logical order, like everything in this life it’s a process, you must group or create components as soon as you finish modeling an object. You have some groups but some are nested with other groups and loose geometry. The best thing you can do is go to the sketchup campus website and learn the basics before continuing your project.

Thanks for your reply. do you think I should just start again from scratch? Or do you think I would be able to salvage this?

Normally, if you watch at least once the basic SketchUp tutorials and understand the basic principles, you could reorganize your current model. Or even make an informed decision that it might be better to completely redo it.
The first thing to keep in mind - group each element and do not assign tags to loose geometry (lines, faces, arcs), but only to groups and components.
