Hi, i use sketchup the latest. Revit plugin needs admin password to uptade, i don’t want to ask admins everytime and i am not needing it, so i uninstall the revit importer. It is not listed in the toolbars list but it asks at the opening to uptade. But there is no such plugin in my plugins list. After a few try i click on the uptade all extensions button at the bottom of the error message and now when i click to open extension manager sketchup closes and gives bugsplat message..
hi, yes. I agree, the revit importer causes crashes, it’s very long to update and it causes crashes when you open the extension manager.
looks like it’s not really uninstalled. Revit importer and Scan essential need to be installed or uninstalled from the sketchup installer. not from the extension manager. If you remove them here, it’ll come back.
to get rid of it, either re-download the installer, right click on it and run as admin (there you’ll have the possibility to change what is installed), or in window’s preference panel / applications installed / the 3 dots next to sketchup allow you to modify it (it’s the same result, just a different path to go there)
While training people, I often see beginners with both plugins installed by default, because they don’t know better.
The install tool should explain more what it’s all about. we usually start the training session by doing what I just described, getting rid of both.
Off course, you could just deactivate it, but it won’t stop the updates from coming, and as you noted, most updates from revit importer end up with a crash.
After a few crash now i can open extension manager. As you said i will call admins and ask them for a fresh installation of sketchup..
it’s not even a “fresh” install, it’s just that for some reason, the installer / uninstaller of revit importer is part of the global SU installer.
and so yeah, you definitively need an admin for that

I’ve had a few customers in secure environments where their setup fails.
Usually those with something like z-scaler - my nemesis.
The revit installer runs as an executable (revitinstallerbinaries.exe) inside of sketchup itself at some point when you first load sketchup after installing and for whatever reason it doesn’t get the access or permissions from the admin to install correctly.
The installer itself is flagged by microsoft smartscreen as something unusual, so that in itself may be enough to stop it functioning.
