@Neil_Burkholder, what Render software/plugin(s) do you have installed?
you surely have tried to plug the device to another USB port, i.e. not at a hub or monitor but directly to the main USB ports typically located at the backside of the system.
Yes I tried plugging it into several USB ports all directly on the computer. I even tried starting SkethUp without having the mouse plugged in and it still crashes.
what does the concerning report log say?

Nothing happens when I click the View Report Details button. The button is disabled.
Click on “Send Error Report” and see if you can grab the files from there.
OK SU 17 gave me the option to view reports.

Are you uninstalling old versions of the 3dconnexion software and restarting you computer between installs of different versions?
I know that I have run into that. Had to completely wipe out one version before I could test the next one
I can’t say for sure that I restarted between every install (I’ve installed/uninstalled about a dozen or more times), but I know I tried to make a point of doing that as well deleting the program data from user/appdata, programdata, and the registry for most of the re-installs.
