Sketchup is the only modern application that I lose data on weekly. It crashes frequently, which doesn’t bother me too much, but most of the time it doesn’t save the data before it crashes, or for some reason it thinks I exited sketchup on my own and deletes the backup. I know trimble claims they have a backup system for lost data, however in practice it doesn’t work for me. could we please get a more robust backup system one that can manage to auto save. preferably to I file that doesn’t automatically get deleted when it shouldn’t.
storage is no longer an issue, I would rather it make rafts of backups than routinely delete the only backup it has

I get bugsplats every so often but when I reopen the file it gives me a choice of the old file or a recovered file. I usually click on the recovered file and voila! The model is intact. The SKB file can be of help too. I also save the files on Trimble Connect and a flash drive. Also I email the file to myself and the client. I SAVE every 5 to 10 minutes. I hope this helps. Same here. The recovered file has saved me a few times as well.
These days I don’t really think about saving much. I use save reminders based on the time since the last save, so I always have a fairly recent save to fall back on.
Before sharing a model, I usually scan it first, verify the textures and geometry, and then share a clean copy. It helps avoid passing along unnecessary issues.
Hey, I had the same problem, so I built an extension that deals with this. It’s a set up and forget extension that deals with backups automatically. It creates multiple verified backups instead of relying on a single autosave/backup file and has automatic backup management system that deletes old backups after X days or after they reach certain size.
