# SketchUp 2026 files keep crashing every time I open it

I use SketchUp 2026. One day every time I try to open a .skp file, it crashes and gives me this error message “SketchUp has produced a bug splat”. This is happening for all .skp files I try to open, even when I create a new file, it crashes. I tried restarting and shutting down my computer, deleting and reinstalling SketchUp, and modifying to repair SketchUp, but I still encounter the same issue. I’ve tried a lot of things, even got an IT person to check and we couldn’t resolve the issue.

Have you tried using Codex to troubleshoot it? It might be able to figure out what’s causing the crashes.

Send in the bugsplats you get with your e-mail. You can copy the bugsplat number and paste it in a post here - @colin or other Trimble people who visit this forum can look them up and give a clue about what is happening.

Update: It was ruby files, mostly my lumion extension that was causing the crash.
