Is there a thingy to display scale . so in that bit im creating if i use that as my default template will the scale info change if i change it in the view or does it have to be done manually
Are you referring to the scale of your view of the SketchUp file? In SketchUp set up the scene with the camera set to Parallel Projection and a standard view, i.e. Front. Select that scene for the viewport in LayOut (in the SketchUp Model window and then select the desired scale below the scene. Do not select Standard view or Ortho in the SketchUp model window. That will result in the scene showing as modified which can create issues if you make changes to the SketchUp file.

Something thats part of fixed document i insert all drawings into but that adjusts depending on what scale i select in the view
That would need to be set manually. Enter it in the template with the most common scale.
