And if I may add the selection should not be lost when right clicking in an empty space in order to perform all other context menu operations like explode, move etc. Is this convenient or not?

Within the limits of how it works now, yes. For example, if you select a few groups and a non-group object, and choose Explode, the groups get exploded and remain selected, the non-group is deselected. That would be the same if right-clicking in an empty kept the current selection.
