Please add the option to display selected materials in section cuts instead of just one colour for all sections, groups or components. I use Skalp, but since the update to 2026, it no longer works, for example. Furthermore, using Skalp is cumbersome, and integrating such an option would greatly enhance and simplify its use.
Try SectionCut Face by Tig, it is available at Sketchucation.
Thx, I will have a look and try this way…
In the absence of a native “colour” solution I find TIG’s SCF to be the simplest option to manage and it also provides some flexibility. Just bear in mind any SCF refresh will delete any material overrides. I delay editing and changing SCF fills until the last-minute in case things change in the model. If you have already overridden the fills, then it can be easier to just edit the SCF fills to match the model changes, much like you would in 2D land
.
If you just want the materials to match, rather than use patterns like Dave has shown, you can edit the SCF fills and paint them by activating the Paint bucket, cmd-click to sample a material in the background and then paint the fill areas. Or you could have a collection of faces painted with pattern fills to the side of your model.
Yes. You can so that. I showed the hatched fills to show that the separation between parts made of the same material.
Or you could create a collection of pattern fills to use for future projects and build up the collection when needed rather than cluttering up your SketchUp models.
Hey, thx to both of you! I still hope sketchup will make it some day
Meanwhile I´ll try this way. Cheers! Stefan
Dave,
Are you using a matching “colored” hatch?
Or is the above a post process with colored section cut face with hatch overlay?
Or other?
Thanks,
Charlie
Charlie,
I created new materials starting with a shipped pattern texture and editing it outside of SketchUp to give it the desired color to match the material applied to the rest of the object. And, as I mentioned earlier, once I’ve created those new materials they get saved into a collection so I don’t have to make them again.
Dave,
Thanks for the clarity.
It looks very nice by the way!
You’re welcome. And thank you!
