Return key does applies typed measurements

SketchUp for Web – Return key no longer commits typed measurements on Mac

I’m using SketchUp for Web on a Mac. This was working normally a few days ago, but suddenly pressing Return after entering a measurement into the box no longer applies the value.

For example:

  1. Select Line tool.
  2. Click first endpoint.
  3. Move cursor to establish direction.
  4. Type 24"
  5. 24" appears correctly in the Measurements box.
  6. Press Return → nothing happens.

However, ⌘ + Return successfully commits the measurement.

So does Option + Return and Shift +Return.

Escape also works normally.

I’ve reproduced the problem in a completely new/blank SketchUp model. I’ve also tried:

  • Chrome
  • Incognito mode
  • another browser
  • clearing browser cache
  • signing out and back into SketchUp
  • resetting SketchUp Web App Settings
  • changing units
  • confirming Length Snapping is off
  • confirming macOS Full Keyboard Access is off

The problem persists.

There is also a ~ appearing before the measurements in the box, which wasn’t happening before.

This seems like a SketchUp for Web keyboard/input bug rather than a model or measurement-settings issue. Has anyone experienced this specific issue in Sketchup for Web on a Mac where a typed measurement appears in the measurement box but pressing return does not apply the measurement? Can Sketchup support team please investigate this bug?

this one means your dimension is approximate.

in sketchup, there is a unit display you can set. you coud work in m with 0 decimals. or you could work in m with 3 decimals.

the difference ?
a line measuring 3,689m would show as ~4m depending on the precision you’re using.

you likely touched it while changing units, changed the decimal precision.

back to the main issue. I can’t reproduce, at least not on firefox and opera. enter and return both work fine, no need to add cmd.

@tommy_acierno is from the web team, he might have a clue of what’s going on. maybe not right now, because it’s sunday morning for him. :sweat_smile:

I get approximate dimensions if I work with 0 decimals or with 4 decimals. I’ve tried them all. This didn’t happen before so not sure why it’s happening all of a sudden. I’m still not able to enter measurements and hit return for the value to set. I have to hit command + return, and this is the case for new models and across different browsers and incognito mode.

That tilde is the real clue here. A leading ~ in the Measurements box means SketchUp thinks the value is approximate, and it usually shows up when length snapping or an inference-tolerance setting is on, so even though you toggled snapping, it’s worth double-checking. But given plain Return fails while ⌘/Option/Shift+Return all work, this really smells like a browser or OS intercepting the bare Return keystroke before SketchUp sees it, which is why the modifier combos slip through. You’ve already ruled out a lot, so it does look like a genuine web-app input bug. Best to file it directly with SketchUp support with your repro steps, they’re clean. Did the ~ start exactly when Return broke?

I couldn’t quite replicate the issue.

But I may have found something similar when I switch between Chrome tabs (using Chrome’s keyboard shortcuts) in the middle of a draw action where I lose the Red, Green, Blue inferences. We’ll take a look.
