Here is a new one. I have been using Sketchup since version 5 when it was owned by atLast. Ever since then a feature that was built into the software was that when I am using the tape measure tool to layout guidelines and such if there was a contact dimension that I wanted to use it would retain the last one I entered for re-use over and over. I am using the latest version of 2026 on a MacBook Pro. I have noticed that the feature is no longer working and I cannot find anything in settings or customization that allows me to make a change to have it work.
No../.what I meant was that if I am using the tape measure tool and want to keep using the same dimension over and over to cast a bunch of guidelines. The software used to retain the previously entered dimension and would use the last entered dimension until it was changed.
I think I know what youāre talking about. At this moment I can only demonstrate this on SU2021, so Iām not sure if itās the same in newer versions⦠Edited: I checked in SU2017Make and SU2026; works in a same way, so I assuming it was always like that.
There is a so called ālast length snappingā feature (which is independent of whether āEnable length snappingā is selected in the Model Info Units menu).
This means that if you use one of the Tools (Line, Circle, Arc, Moveā¦Tape Measure*), the āsystemā remembers the last dimension entered, and the next time you move the mouse, the cursor snaps to that last dimension.
This is independent of which Tool you are using, so if you entered a dimension in the Line Tool and for example you switch to the Circle tool, the Circle radius will snap to the dimension entered in the Line tool.
If you switch to the Tape Measure tool, it will also use the value entered in the Line tool.
Like this:
*However, for some reason, when you create a parallel guide line from an edge or another guideline in the Tape Measure tool, the entered size is not recorded:
The workaround is to create a Guide point by entering the distance, then the parallel Guide Line will be able to use the distance you entered when creating the Guide point.
(Or, for example, as you see in first animation, you can temporally switch to the Line tool, create a line, enter its size, delete the line, and switch to Tape and you can use the value entered in the Line toolā¦)
How to create guide lines with a fixed distance using the move copy tool, also move guide lines using the stamp tool to place then to whatever distanc you want to put them without lifting the mouse.
I recall that in previous years release that if you were using the tape measure tool and plugged in a dimension of 10ā or whatever, the next time you used the tool or if you wanted to run off a series of āguidelinesā that it the app retained your last inputted dimension so you could keep running guidelines in any direction at the āretainedā and previously inputted dimensions.
well, I just tried what Dezmo said, and it still works that way.
I canāt remember if it used to work with parallel guides too, or only drawing tools (Iāve only used it while drawing), but it kinda works.
Depending on the situation, this could be a request for a bugfix (if it used to work and doesnāt) or a feature request
I know exactly what you mean ā I use that feature all the time when setting out guidelines.
For example, I might create four guide lines at 20mm, but only enter the dimension once for the first guideline. Then I switch to 5mm and again only enter it once before laying out several more guides.
Iām currently using SketchUp Pro 2025 on a PC, length snapping is always switched OFF and it still works that way for me.
