Reflections show the outside environment instead of interior

Hello!

Noob here. I modelled an elevator interior with the intention to make renderings in Lumion.

The elevator is fully enclosed, with 2 mirror surfaces (a mirror and mirrored elevator door) and those keep reflecting the OUTSIDE environment.

I checked the 3D model in sketchup to see if any gaps with the outside, but nothing..

What am I doing wrong, any idea?

Thank you

Please update your forum profile - it does not make sense. What version of SketchUp are you using - nothing in your profile works with plugins.

Please upload your model to a reply. So we can have some idea of what you have created. Trying to understand your description makes my head hurt.

Are you trying to render a view from inside a fully mirrored elevator? Basically being inside a mirrored box?

Does ‘environment’ mean the SketchUp environments used for backgrounds / skydome? Or does it mean other things in your model like furniture, trees, etc.?

So far, materials inside SketchUp don’t reflect geometry, which is why you see straight through to the environment image. Lumion is likely to do the right thing.

Hello bmike, apologies for the incomplete info. I am using the SketchUp web based version at this time.

The elevator has 2 wooden walls, a large mirror at the back, and mirrored doors (polished steel).

The issue occurs when I open it in Lumion, and I understand that this is no Lumion forum, but I read that the wrong reflections (of the outside environment) may be due to some tiny gap somewhere.

I checked everything and can not find any issue with the model.

Thank you.

Yeah this error occurs in Lumion, but I read that it may be caused by geometry issue in the model (small gaps to the outside) but I can’t determine the root cause.

I don’t know anything about Lumion, but I would check that the mirror materials you use are correct, with no transparency, and that the faces are correctly oriented, with the front sides facing the interior of the elevator.

So you are using the free version of SKP and then opening in Lumion, then setting up the materials and the camera view? Could it be that it’s such a small space your camera is not properly positioned inside the volume so you are seeing artifacts from ‘outside’?

Someone with Lumion experience will need to help, and you will probably have to post that file as well. And maybe better ask Lumion for help.

Are you modeling and rendering this for a client?

Understood, thanks, will try!

Hello bmike, thanks for your feedback. Will check the camera positions.

I am doing a redesign of the elevator in my building for fun and will then show it to the manager on site to try to see if he can consider my designs if one day they plan to renovate it.

Cheers.

I dropped Lumion few years ago, but as I remmeber, you should go to Effects, add a reflection sphere, close to your elevator in the scene. This will increase the precision of reflection.
