Question about collections

I am starting to setup my own component collections. When I do that creates a new collection that shows up in the component collection pull down menu. My question is what are the greyed out categories “My Models”, My Collections and Nearby Models? Also how do you make use of them? I cannot find anything in the online documentation that refers to these.

Those grayed out items relate to your content in the 3D Warehouse. You need to have some collections there and you need to be signed in.

Are you just making local collections on your computer?

Good enough. Make sure you put them somewhere accessible for future versions of Sketchup, too.
