I am still drawing model tram sides and until recently when I drew the last side of a widow the bold outline went faint but now the line stays bold and the background can be seen. What have I done?

Are you using SketchUp 2017 Make as your profile says or SketchUp for Web as the forum category you posted in indicates.

The edges remain profile edges because you haven’t actually drawn the rectangle on the larger face. It’s floating in the air above the face.
It probably doesn’t help that you have your model skewed relative to the axes. It would be a whole lot easier to do the modeling if you keep things on axis.

Is there an easy way to get the work back on axis?

Not a real easy way because there’s so much weird stuff between angled geometry, off axis sub-groups, and ungrouped geometry. I’ve cleaned up the model and tried to get it back on axis. You can take a look at the file.

There are things that seem to need attention parts that overlap or don’t line up correctly but I don’t know exactly what you have in mind so I didn’t change any of that.
