I built a model of a site, and need to try and overlay it onto a surface built from contours in TBC. I’ve tried drape and it doesn’t drape properly. The lines do not close completely. Is there a plugin that can help with this? Or any recommendations?
Share your file, it helps us to find the problem. You can try to push pull surfaces to intersect the terrain and intersect faces with model to obtain the cutting edges.
Here is a google drive link. The file is to big to post directly. Thanks for any help.
Yes. However, Im not sure if your model is different, but it doesn’t close, so I cant color the faces according to the surface above.
Most of it seems to close just fine. I found a couple of spots that didn’t. For example at the sharp corner where the darker green meets the parking lot near the cursor
In the area of the large building footprint in the middle but you can see heavy profile edges near where the issues are. They are easily fixed with the Line tool.
This is the back left corner of that foot print. There’s a 3/16 in. long gap there.
BTW, I would recommend getting the tag usage set correctly so that you created problems going forward. All edges and faces should be untagged. That should be a first step after importing CAD or other files into SketchUp. Removing the tags from the geometry will prevent you from creating content that disappears when you aren’t expecting it.
I exploded the component containing the flat and bottom terrain objects to make it easier to work with. I also purged unused stuff from the model.
This cleanup reduced the file size by 35%.
That is amazing, thank you! is there any way for you to share that file back to me? I really appreciate the help!!
I’ll upload it to DropBox and come back with the link. It’s only about 18 Mb but the forum limit is 16 Mb. I was looking for something I could do to knock off the other couple of megs but I don’t know what you can stand to get rid of.
Back shortly.
Here you go.
I hope it works for you.
Dave,
You are a life saver. Thank you so much for the help
