Projecting a texture onto a curved surface

I want to project this WHALE SUB logo onto this curved surface. I just learned how to do it - via explode then Texture in the right click menu. What does it mean when Texture does not show up in that menu?

PROJECT.skp (683.8 KB)

Texture will only show up in the Context menu if the texture has been applied to faces, not groups or components and if you are only selecting a single face. A curved surface is made of multiple faces.

Is this what you are trying to accomplish?

The transparency of the material makes it look like the outer surface is missing.

Side question: why is that extrusion you ask help for earlier inside out? There should be no exposed blue back faces in your 3D model

But but but… you can project onto curved surfaces. That youtube video tells me so.

Your side q: I reverse faces sometimes to show a distinct entity, when I am not yet ready to paint the model. Make sense?

Yes, you can. That has nothing to do with “Texture” showing up in the Context menu, though.

Yes, the jpg shows what I want to do. What are the steps to do it?

To do what? Apply the material onto the curved surface? Open the object for editing so you have access to the surface, get the eye dropper from the Materials panel (B for Pain Bucket, Alt for the eyedropper) sample the material off the large face containing it. Click with the bucket on the surface.
