So you did apply the materials to the faces, not the objects which is good.
The windows and door components you made are not set up to cut openings so you need to edit the wall group, draw in the outlines of the opening and delete the face where the opening is. It’s kind of like sheathing over the openings in the real walls and then cutting the sheathing away.
What could I have done different when creating the windows/doors? Like how do I set them up to cut openings?
As much as I try I dont get it right in the first place.
It seems like I am missing out something very essential…
When you create the component you need to give it gluing properties and select Cut Opening. Also set the component’s axes so the red and creen are at the back of the window.
Thanks, I really appreciate your help! Test bostad.skp (354.0 KB)
I have created a new component (fönster test) with gluing properties and cut opening. But when I want to place it into the wall group it says (can’t place component here).
What did I miss (again)?
The only thing you did of the three things I told you was to give the component the gluing property. You didn’t set the component’s axes correctly. The red and green determine the plane that gets glued to the face.
You didn’t set the component to cut the opening, and you didn’t place the component inside the wall group.
Take a look at this. The component called Window is the one with the axes set correctly and the ability to cut an opening set. I’ve replaced the three windows in the end wall. You can do the rest.
You could benefit yourself by spending some time at The SketchUp Campus. This is a site that will provide the basics for learning the SketchUp modeling process. Also, spend some time at the SketchUp SketchUp YouTube site. It provides much information including how to use each tool.
I have done some of the campus courses but it is always different when I start drawing by myself. There are so many ways of doing thing, so many things to have in mind that I dont always remember everything…
