Hello… I am trying to follow a basic tutorial that creates a cabinet and then inserts equally spaced partitions. I have created the partition, made it a component, and made a copy of it, and moved it to the end to the cabinet. The next operation is the use the forward slash, followed by the number of equal partitions…but it’s not working (despite literally hours of attempts and Google searches, etc). Instead, the partition is move left or right by the number of units I enter, but I do not get the equal spacing I expect (and see in the tutorial). I am using the subscription GO version (just subscribed) and a MacBook Pro M1 running Sonoma 14.5… Would greatly appreciate any help…is there an incompatibility with Sonoma 14.5? Not sure what I’m doing wrong. Thanks in Advance!
Please share your SketchUp model file so we can see what you’ve got.
Please correct your forum profile then. You aren’t using SketchUp for desktop if you have a Go subscription.
This is what I get in SketchUp Go.
Move the copy in the desired direction, type the desired move distance, press Enter/Return, type /3 and press Enter/Return again.
Spacebar
Select object
M
Tap Option Key
Pick reference on object (corner, midpoint, etc)
Click L,R, or Up arrow to lock inference in a straight line
Click second reference (where you want the part to be copied to)
/4 (or 2 or 11 or whatever)
Enter
Don’t make a copy that you only then move.
Do [Ctrl] Move (= + Move) the selection or object to the end and then type /4 [Enter] to get four copies equally spaced.
Apologies for being slow in responding, and very much appreciate your time and effort to help, as well as that of the 2 others! So, I’ve tried to “post” my little model, but can’t figure out how to do that… Here is what I have tried, many, many times: I have an open cabinet. I create a vertical partition, and make it a component. I take the M tool, place it on the lower left hand corner of the partition, and hit + . I move it a tad, fix it to the red axis, and move it to the far end of the open cabinet. I release the mouse button. I type /3 and enter. What happens is that the partition moves 3 units, but I do not get the cabinet divided into 3 equal spaces with partitions. I would LOVE to know what I’m doing wrong… Thank you again!
Press Enter after moving the copy of the partition and then type /3 and press Enter again.
Download the SketchUp file to your computer and then drag the .skp file into a reply here.
You must hit Ctrl on windows or option on Mac right after pressing M or clicking on the move tool so you make a copy of the element, then place it where you want and without pressing anything else type /n, n is the number, then enter.
Thanks, Yes, that’s exactly what I’ve been doing…
To whom did you reply?
Still not working? Can you make a video capture while you try to do that? Shift+ cmnd+5 to make video captures on Mac.
Does the / actually show in the Window bottom right corner?
Still not working…at least for me. Here is the file for the model. I’ve been trying to workout the operation in the little cabinet on the right.

Exact same steps as I described before. Get the Move tool, activate the Copy function, click on the divider and move it over to the opposite side, press Enter, then /3 and Enter again.
Make sure you aren’t dropping the copy of the divider after first starting to move it. Move it fully to the opposite side of the box. And grab the divider by a corner that can correspond to a point at the opposite side of the box.
Great to see this work for you! I’m doing. your exact steps, but it just moves the divider 3 units… I’m on a MacBook. Any chance the / command is different on a Mac? When I type it, at the time you indicate and which clearly works for you, I don’t see any symbol of the / in the dialog box below… I know my keyboard types the /, so it’s not the keyboard itself…could it be a Mac thing?
No. The only difference would be using Option instead of Ctrl to enable the Copy function of the Move tool.
Are you typing the / on the same key as the ? or are you hitting the back slash \ by mistake. A few weeks ago there was someone trying to use the back slash instead of the forward slash.
It would be really helpful if you could do a screen capture video so we can see what you are doing.
I am using the same / as the ? . I’ll try to figure out how to do a screen capture. Very much appreciate your patience and kindness in trying to help me figure this out!
Shift+cmnd+5 is the native Mac feature to make video screen capture, Shift+cmnd+4 is for screenshots.
Got it to Work!!! Turns out that somehow (not sure how) the / had been assigned an incorrect “shortcut”…I restored to default settings and it worked… Many, Many Thanks to Everyone on this Forum who helped with this! I hope to pay forward as my skills improve!
Thank you! I finally managed to get things to work by restoring Default settings to the keyboard…not sure how things go messed up, but glad it’s working!
