Plugin for realistic or dynamic strings?

I’m hoping to model strings on a small instrument.
Is there a better way than adding a line, to accurately show the way a string will change directions as it moves from post to bridge, etc?

I don’t know about plugins to help with defining the path of the string, sorry. But I have modeled such things manually with arcs and edges, then using the path for Follow Me with a circle profile. Here is a spring with a few twists and turns as an example:
